- I think that an Amiga w/40mhz 030 4MB Ram, 200+MB hard drive and a CDROM
- should run about $500. $500 is the price that many people want computer
- companies to aim for in a low end system. Someone at AT needs to read the
- current issue of Byte. They have a good article on $500 internet computers,
- although they failed to mention the Amiga (I wonder why) as an option. So
- far the Macintosh Pippin from Apple seems to be the best option when it's
- released. The Pippin is a PowerMac CDROM (w/o a floppy) game machine that
- will run about $500. AT needs to put out something like that. An upgraded
- (to add all ports, 040, faster gfx, etc) CD32 would be nice for that.
-
- : A little advertising couldn't hurt either. :)
-
- AT advertise? Do they know how? I think they learned about advertising
- from the people in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy that wanted to knock
- down Arthur Dent's house.
-
-
- : One other thing that I have wondered about. Why is AT a seperate entity
- : from Escom? Why must AT live or die on it's own? Hardly any company runs
- : in the black it's first 2-3 years. Trying to run in the black in the first
- : year is nuts. Especially when they have priced the Amigas so high in order
- : to do it.
-
- Nothing wrong with that. I'm for anything that keeps the Amiga seperated
- from any other name (such as Commodore).
-
-
- : I am an enthusiastic Amiga user. I want to remain one. With the 1200/4000
- : prices set as they are today, I won't be able to justify the purchase over
- : other platforms.
-
- Same here. I've about written off the Amiga at a viable platform. The lack
- of support from AT, new software (esp. games), Amiga outlets, improved
- hardware, RTG standards, ... is doing a good job of driving people away.
